About Todd Connor

For years I have tried to tell my story, and especially its most significant part: the story of Liz, the Black woman who saved my life when I was very young. How do I properly thank her for what she did? How do I convey the desperate situation my siblings and I were in? And above all, how do I communicate the immense pressures of Liz’s world, and the obstacles of racism, money, and power she overcame to rescue us from the danger closing in around us?

I first set all of this down in my book, published in 2016, and now it comes to the screen in the film of the same name, brought to life through the artistic vision of director Sterling Macer Jr. and the performance of Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as Liz. Telling this story has been a lifelong goal, and it now feels complete.
